hello dear friends... well, many of you are aware of my on going daily saga.
my husband and i left the organization about a year and a half ago.
we have not been disfellowshipped, nor have we disassociated ourselves.

My opinion? Don't go! You won't enjoy dinner anyway with all this at the back of your mind.
And - this is only what I've picked up from JWD - people will believe whatever they want to (fuelled, as ever, by gossip) so there doesn't seem much to gain.
about prayer, about god, about life, about who we are.. the other day i was taking a call from my daughter at bootcamp.
she is distressed and i found myself comforting her by saying remember jehovah loves you.. while driving and thinking, i asked god to look after her while she was in bootcamp......uggggggggggg............ then i thought......why don't i tell her to call upon her own skills, to think, tell myself to remember that i raised a smart thinking girl that can take care of herself.. why discount the work that we have done in raising our children or discount our own determination, drive and ambition?.
i found more comfort and peace with this thinking than handing it over to some mysterious god, that i felt like if was truely her "father" would not have let her go to the army in the first place.. i love and respect creation......nature, the planet, and i am perfectly happy in how it got here to be a mystery to me......it is no more mysterious to me than some being creating it.. my thoughts for the morning.. purps

She's part-way through it already. It gets easier as you progress. Honestly.
I have two adult children. Really, all you can do is bring them up and hope. I've been lucky. Hope you will be too. Good luck to your daughter.

i read an interesting question on one of my threadshow many people at bethel were anointed?
how many of those were on the gb?can you estimate the percentage of people at bethel who were anointed vs non-anointed?
To me (as a sceptic) it just highlights where Russell, Rutherford, et seq, went wrong.
They should have kept their religion more vague.
Now, with the benefit of time having passed, it becomes clearer (new light ? !) that this was just another product of the mid 19th century craze for new religions.

If it's any consolation at all, in my early 20s I did 10 weeks 'bootcamp'. It was police, not miltary, and it was in the UK, but it really was not that different - except for the law etc. classes.
At the time, I thought I hated it. When I graduated, i was extemely proud of myself, and so were others.
Looking back now, it was a great time. As others said to me - and I said to others - 'If you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined'. Haha, it took me a long time to get the joke.
Your daughter is already part way through this. When she completes it, she will feel proud of herself and will have had the benefit of an experience not too many get and fewer complete. However things go in the future, she'll always be able to say 'I did that' and I got through it. Something to be proud of.

It just seems to me (as one who doesn't accept this for one minute) that if the 144,000 are the 'spiritual Israel' and thus those specially chosen or anointed, then the 'remnant and top-ups' of the 'anointed class' are the ones directly in contact with their god - they will, after all, be the ones in charge of god's kingdom after Amy Geddon finally comes (poor woman, she must be awfully frustrated by now).
If this was a political party or a trade union, they'd at least have in place some mechanism whereby the members of this group could communicate with the executive council (or GB) their views. One would expect this even moreso when we're talking about divine revelation.
So this just goes to show (if further evidence were needed) that WTBTS doesn't believe its own doctrines.
i will not be able to post this until the evening of 8-20. i worked on 8-27 by mistake and will be out of town until sunday evening.

Can I ask a question as an outsider?
if the JWs believe that there are currently about 8,000+ 'anointed' living, and that the 'anointed' are the F&DS, why is there no procedure for WTBTS to consult the 'anointed' to ensure that WTBTS is getting updates from jehovah?

in reading thirdwitness of late, i am reminded now how painful it was to deal with that level of cold, harsh denial.
for those innocents hurt by this strange, mean little sect i submit ...
october 8, 1993 awake: tragically, adult society often unwittingly collaborates with child abusers.
As a not, never have been a JW, but a retired professional who dealt with too much child abuse, can I please post this plea?
Do not ever, ever, allow anyone (apart from parents/carers of course) anywhere near a child abuse victim unless and until the professionals have done their jobs and finished with their interviews. The parents/carers should share no details with anyone else - especially not the alleged or putative abuser or anyone connected with them.
The professionals work under very strict guidelines and rules to ensure that the evidence of the victim is not 'tainted' - i.e. can't be excluded by a court.
There is nothing more distressing than a victim who has gone through the pain and horror of all this only to find that because others have got involved (and that would include 'elders' of a mind control cult) their evidence, which they have gone through so much pain to give, is discounted.
I don't mean to sound preachy, but this is something I feel very strongly about.
ALL and ANY suspicions of abuse should be reported immediately. It is a principle of the law in these matters (in the UK at least) that 'early complaint' may be a corroborative factor.
